Production Process

Plan the production process for a new media product

In this unit I will be making two media products, one text/visual (CD cover, DVD etc) , and one for a moving image (trailers, short movie etc). For my text/visual I will be making a movie poster for a film I have named ‘ Oliver Rose ‘. I have named it this because its simple, and its also a psychological thriller, so it is sort of a mysterious name and doesn’t suggest anything that the films about, which could attract an audience. I intend for this poster to be simple also, but effective, it will have just a simple photo of the child, who is going to be played as my brother, and I will use Adobe Photoshop CS3 to edit it. Posters I have influence of are, ‘ Joshua ‘ ‘Dead Silence ‘ ‘Jason X’ etc ( secondary research document ).
For my moving image I will be making a Horror movie trailer. The film will be called ‘ Secluded ‘. I’ve chosen this name because its also simple but effective and can grab audiences easily. I will be using a lot of orchestra, mainly slow violin to increase the suspense as the trailer progresses. There will also be a lot of cuts in the trailer, like flash from black to the scene, and repeating its self to make it look more realistic ( typical horror movie ). It will be shot in the forests of Lee Brockhurst. The mise en scene will be good because you can see nothing but trees and looks like your in the middle of nowhere, the perfect location for the type of trailer I intend to make. I will need some props for this, these will include fake blood, and a video tape, that’s it. So keeping the budget low, and with the props I buy will be roughly a total of £8. However they’re just the props I have to pay for, other props I already have, for this trailer I will need a pair of old boots, old rags, axe, and an old looking hat. The videos that are similar to the one I am going to make are ‘ Joshua ‘ ‘Shrooms’ and ‘ Eden Lake ‘
Once I have to footage/stills I need, I will then work in the computer suite to begin editing. The estimated time for production will be from 12 October 09 – 02 February 2010 this includes editing. I plan to capture the footage I need in Lee Brockhurst Forest because its fairly local and easy to get too, and is ideal for what I intend to make.
I plan on making my media products by myself, primary recourses only, i.e no images off google etc.

Moving image research

This film is similar to the trailer i will make because of the child, the child is the one who is the main part of the film, and the one terrorizing the victims. I think the facial expressions and the speech is effective because it really draws the audience in with his plans.

This trailer is similar simply because of the location, lots of forestry, lots of landscape views, it just builds up tension and suspense until it all kicks off.

AOB-5

Evaluate skills in terms of:
.creativity
.ability to work accurately
.meeting deadlines
.use of equipment & materials

During the period of this course, i have developed new skills from GCSE and increased my creativeness. I already knew how to use Photoshop CS3 before i even started GCSE, because i enjoy sport photography, and whenever i went out to shoot, i'd get home and edit them ready to be uploaded to a website etc. My creativity has improved, at the start of this course my only concern about editing photos was the color, i always had to adjust the color to make it look more wacky. But now i experiment with different styles using many layers, and i am able to create more unique effects. My ability to meet deadlines isn't very good to be honest, its not that i'm not the type of person to get the work done, i just think i take too much time on one particular thing, which means I'm slacking on the other work and end up falling behind. My ability to work accurately is good, lets say for example, im making a movie poster, i always have to make sure it looks like the real thing, to near enough the standard of a professional movie poster. I always need to make sure the font and the color matches the theme of the image. For example, if its a horror i would apply a slight dark blue tint, just to create an atmosphere within the image. However if it was a family comedy, i would apply sort of a glow, maybe yellow or orange depending on the images lighting already, just to give it a warm welcoming feeling, opposite to the horror theme. I also make sure everything is lined up correctly and that it doesn't look over the top. My ability to use equipment is alot better than it used to be, i am able to use video cameras, digital SLR, set up tri-pods, and use the software to edit captured footage, these would include, Photoshop CS3, iMovie, and Illustrator.

Audience Feedback

For my audience feedback, i went to show my samples for my audio/visual, and my print peices and explain them to my targeted audience (teens. The feedback i got for my print peice was very helpful, and gave me new ideas and inspiration. It was strongly recommended that my print peice should look more mysterious, or give us hidden meanings that could give us more of an idea about what the film is about. The majority of the audience liked the fact that it is called ' oliver rose ', as it is a unique name for a horror/mystery film.

- more color could make it more eye appealing.
- if its an image of a child it needs to look creepy, becuase a creepy child to one person could be a funny looking one to everyone else.
- you could make the eyes red, as he is possessed by the devil.
- scribbly writing like a childs writing, as there is a child in the film.
- the cover could be a bit more gorey.
- its good because its in an old fashioned style, not many films these days are made like that.

For my audio/visual i will be making a trailer for a film called ' The Bleeding '. I told my ideas to each individual person for my feedback. I basically said that i'm going to make a trailer for a film called the bleeding which i named myself, its going to be set in a forest in lee brockhurst, and shot at dawn just before the sun rises so its all dark and misty. The plot is about a boy who gets lost in a forest and strange things start happening. I havent decided weather to use first person, or second person so i've left it for the audience to decide so it would help me make it a better peice for all, not just myself. Audience feedback are as follows :

- First person would be good, but holding the camera near the child as if you were actually there would be more effective as it would draw the audience into the film, making you feel part of it.
-If its set in a forest, after all the massacre and all that has been and done, you could show some scenery shots of just the trees in the mist covered in blood just to show how calm it is.
-It wouldnt be that effective all in first person, because the viewers wouldnt see the child and you couldnt use effective close ups, these are all important because the facial expressions can cause suspence and create an atmosphere.
-end the trailer with a scream, or something right at the end of the trailer that will make the audience remember it, and leave them with chills.
- start the trailer nice and calm, then cram in some suspenceful parts, and end the scene with something that will make the audience want to see the film.
-Black and white would be unique.
